MRI Scanning
Magnetic Resonance Imaging
MRI is a powerful diagnostic tool, using a magnetic field to produce high quality images. The MRI scanner is used to accurately diagnose many clinical conditions, some of which may be impossible to diagnose using other techniques.
The MRI Scanner visits the Alverthorpe Hospital regularly for MRI appointments and an emergency service is available if required.
MRI is used to diagnose :
- tumours
- spinal & disc disease
- brain disorders
- syringohydromyelia/Chiari Malformation
- foreign bodies
- soft tissue abnormalities
CT Scanning
Computerised Tomography
CT is a powerful and advanced form of x-ray used to produce cross-sectional images. The CT beam moves rapidly all around the body, producing hundreds of scans and images from different angles (like a 3-D Image).
The CT Scanner is based at our Brindley Way Hospital and is used regularly for CT appointments and emergencies.
CT is used to diagnose :
- Tumours & spread of cancer cells
- Liver, heart and lung disorders
- Musculoskeletal & joint disorders
- Foreign bodies
- Soft tissue abnormalities
- Inner ear disorders
- Reproductive and urogenital tract abnormalities
- Surgical planning
