The role includes a mixture of consulting, case workup and surgery.  We actively encourage the development of team members, providing training, easily accessed support and clinical guidance.  The practice is supported by two highly trained RVN’s (one a Senior), who offer extended nurse clinics including physiotherapy and nutrition consults.  A permanent VCA on reception trained in bereavement support and several student nurses and trainees.

The practice is well equipped benefitting from Digital Xray, Ultrasound, (S6 from IMV)  IM3 dental machine, Tonopen and Abaxxis biochem and haematology.  If a candidate is wanting additional equipment to develop a new service/ skill or standard, we’re more than happy to discuss.  Endoscopy, Multiparameter monitoring, Bair Hugger, and Ventilator available at the Alverthorpe Hospital.  Full overnight support provided at the Alverthorpe Hospital for critical/complex cases requiring 24/7 nursing.

Overall, we have a superb team of nurses including 16 RVNS, many of whom have additional post grad qualifications.  We also benefit from dedicated receptionist support, many of whom hold BVRA and Customer Service qualifications. Our Surgical Director is an Advanced Practitioner in Surgery, with a Certs in Imaging also.  We benefit from a visiting Advanced Practitioner in Cardiology who also holds a Cert in Medicine and we have a further Vet with a GP Cert in surgery.  We have highly motivated clients, and a claim direct facility is commonly used, supporting access to healthcare for all.

Our Leadership Team consists of our Surgical Director vet, a Practice Manager, Deputy Practice Manager, Operations Manager, two further Senior Vets, two Head Nurses and a Head Receptionist.  We listen, we’re proactive, we’re kind, and we look to constantly improve for the benefit of our team, our patients and our clients.

Our standard rota benefits from a four-day working week, with 1:4 weekends (based at our main Hospital).    Shift times for this role during the week would be 9am-7pm, with an hour for dinner.  The last half hour of the day is appointment free, designated for client call back time, to report labs or follow up on cases etc.  Holidays include 5 weeks standard holiday plus bank holiday entitlement, plus an additional buy and sell scheme. Whilst we do require Bank Holiday cover throughout the year, this is shared equally amongst the team and we fully close the practice on Christmas Day allowing everyone to enjoy the day with their family.

Accommodation and vehicle can be provided as part of a package. CPD allowance of £1750 per annum (higher if Advanced Practitioner) and VDS and RCVS retention fees funded. Professional membership of choice.  Staff discount scheme, Pension and Healthshield available.  Enhanced sick pay, enhanced parental leave and cycle to work scheme.  We run a journal club, a Google Classroom with vet and nurse streams, plus a Whatsapp vet group for clinical chatter.

Our team are amazing, friendly, a bit loud and fun.  We enjoy each other’s company.  We like to reward our teams with regular treats, picnics, Christmas parties etc (go away Covid) and more.  Afternoon tea delivered to all sites and a mobile ice cream trike are some of the treats we’ve done this year.  We have a wellbeing group and offer extensive support to ensure both mental health and physical health are kept in the best possible condition.  We want out teams to be happy and healthy.

“I work at Chantry Vets because as cliche as it sounds, no two days are ever the same.  Over the past year I have been challenged in ways I never thought were possible, but every step of the way I have been fully supported by all teams at Chantry whilst I have navigated this new role, with no judgement when I have made mistakes.

I work at Chantry Vets because I feel my knowledge is valued as an RVN with an Advanced Diploma. It’s a very collaborative environment where nurses’ thoughts and input are listened to and nurses are encouraged to give their opinions and actively participate in case management.  We constantly invest in our nurse training which in turn allows the nursing team to provide great care for our patients”.      Michelle Rewcastle – Head Nurse
